Fulfilling the promise of grid storage:
- Uncompromising performance: blazing
speeds for both sequential streaming and small file random applications
- Outstanding scalability: performance
scales near-linearly as capacity grows
- Simplified management: single namespace
eliminates data silos common with NAS systems
- High availability: two independent levels
of RAID protection maximize resiliency and availability
- Ideal match
for Linux clusters: RapidScale
leverages standard Linux management tools
Rackable Systems RapidScale™ clustered storage solutions transform one
or more RapidScale appliances into a single, virtual pool of storage, with data
striped across all appliances in a storage cluster to maximize performance.
Delivering a truly parallel architecture, RapidScale's global namespace
dramatically simplifies storage management while providing near-linear scaling
of performance as storage appliances are added to the cluster. Shipping
RapidScale clusters in preconfigured racks ensures quick installation times,
even in large implementations.
For the most demanding environments, RapidScale HA configurations provide
two independent levels of data protection – hardware RAID within every
appliance in addition to RAID across multiple appliances. This strategy
maximizes resiliency while preserving availability even during storage appliance
outages as hot spare failover protection and dynamic reconstruction capabilities
rapidly engage to restore all contents of the failed system.
By leveraging a parallelized version of the proven XFS file system and other
standard Linux management tools, RapidScale minimizes both installation times
and ongoing management costs as Linux administrators typically only require
minimal training before they can successfully manage a RapidScale storage cluster.
Industry leading clustered storage solution

Rackable Systems RapidScale storage clusters aim to provide the highest
possible price/performance capability for grid computing applications
found in many industries – ranging from Internet web serving and
streaming media applications to seismic processing and financial data
mining.
By dynamically layering data across the appliances, RapidScale storage
clusters provide performance up to tens of Gigabytes per second of throughput
or hundreds of thousands of random I/O's per second. This
removes the I/O bottleneck that inhibits most grid computing applications
from reaching their top performance capacity. This often speeds
time to results by factors of ten times or more depending on the application
and previous storage technology.
Although many deployments choose to utilize dual Gigabit Ethernet per
appliance for front-end connectivity to application servers, RapidScale
also provides the option for front-end and/or back-end InfiniBand connectivity,
maximizing performance while shortening appliance rebuild times for HA
configurations.
The RapidScale solution complements other server
and storage offerings from Rackable systems.
