Rackable Systems’ RapidScale™ clustered storage system delivers
a true parallel storage solution with a global namespace and a single virtual
pool of storage. Designed for the most demanding Linux based cluster computing
environments, RapidScale provides dramatic benefits including:
- Global File System and Namespace: share a single file system across thousands
of simultaneous Linux servers – 64-bit addressing for scaling to 18 Exabytes
of capacity
- Unbounded performance: scalable I/O throughput for both sequential streaming
and small file random I/O applications
- Seamless scalability: grow capacity as needed with no interruption, with
near linear performance scaling.
- Simplified management: single namespace eliminates the islands of data common
with NAS systems
- Continuous Data Availability: local and distributed RAID protection for
fault tolerance and maximum data availability
- Designed for Linux clusters: Integrates natively with Linux file systems
and management tools
The RapidScale clustered storage system employs standard Linux servers, with a
parallel version of the proven XFS file system (zXFS), and one or more RapidScale
storage appliances – to create a single, virtual pool of storage with data striped
across all appliances in a storage cluster to maximize performance. RapidScale
clustered storage solutions provide a highly scalable storage solution for a wide
variety of applications:
- Media and Entertainment storage
- Scalable web server storage
- Seismic Exploration in Oil & Gas
- Government Research
- Manufacturing Simulations
- High Performance Computing in Financial Services and Life Sciences

RapidScale storage appliances provide the scalable storage pool for the RapidScale
cluster. Appliances are available as a 3U half-depth chassis with 9 hot-swap
SATA II disk drives (SA2150) or a 3U standard-depth chassis with 16 hot-swap
SATA II disk drives (SA3100) and standard dual Gigabit Ethernet connectivity
(InfiniBand optional). RapidScale storage appliances support both local RAID
and RapidScale HA distributed RAID to provide two independent levels of data
protection.
