Rackable Systems Announces New SMP and High Efficiency Server Lines

-- New C5100-SMP Series Broadens Server Offerings with High Performance SMP Solution; C2002 Achieves Exceptional Power Efficiency --

MILPITAS, CALIF. – November 14, 2005 – Rackable Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: RACK), a leading provider of servers and storage for scale out data center deployments, today announced the launch of two new server products: the C5100-SMP Server and the C2002 High Efficiency Series.

C5100-SMP Server
Rackable Systems' new C5100-SMP provides a cost effective, x86-based alternative to traditional RISC-based SMP servers. A true SMP solution, it delivers high performance while providing ease of deployment, management and maintenance. It is ideal for high performance computing requirements in fields such as Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), bioinformatics, life and materials science, Electronic Design Automation (EDA), mechanical engineering, petroleum and seismic engineering, visualization, rendering and financial modeling/risk analysis.

The C5100-SMP is a 5U, 8-processor server with 32GB of physical memory that leverages industry-standard components and the ScaleMP vSMP architecture. It provides a traditional SMP operational model using shared memory and a single operating system, achieving high performance and ease of management at an attractive acquisition cost.

"Rackable Systems' new C5100-SMP solution is an exciting new opportunity for simulation users looking for cluster performance. Many users would be pleased with Rackable Systems' turnkey, SMP approach," said Ray Browell, product manager for New Technologies at ANSYS, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANSS). "Rackable Systems' C5100-SMP solution is a viable solution for any ANSYS customer wishing to deploy a turnkey solution that is a quick start, high performance and easy to maintain."

The C5100-SMP is immediately available for a list price of US$69,000 in a 64-bit, 8-processor configuration. Dual-core and 16-processor solutions are planned.

C2002 High Efficiency Series
Rackable Systems' award-winning C2002 High Efficiency Series leverages DC Power and a number of design innovations to achieve low power consumption and thermal efficiency, maximizing data center density while minimizing the need for expensive upgrades to power and cooling infrastructure.

The C2002 features dual-core processors from AMD and Intel and is available in a variety of configurations. Known as the World's Most Efficient Server, a typical configuration deployed in an AC data center draws a peak of less than 150 watts in a design featuring two dual-core processors (four total cores), 4 GB DDR400 RAM and one Terabyte of SATA storage—with a mere 500 BTU/hour of peak thermal output. Wattage can be further reduced by as much as ten percent in a DC-based data center.

The C2002's high efficiency is achieved by using rack-level DC power distribution, passive heat sinks to further increase server reliability, a unique cooling system designed to draw minimal power and dual-core processors for maximum performance. C2002 servers are designed in Rackable Systems' trademark half-depth form factor, enabling back-to-back rack mounting for high density, optimal serviceability and more efficient cooling.

"As companies continue to increase the size of their server deployments, many data centers struggle with a fixed amount of power insufficient for what the latest server models typically demand," said Geoffrey Noer, senior director of product marketing at Rackable Systems. "C2002 High Efficiency servers allow data centers to deploy double the number of servers within the same power budget, without compromising performance or the need for expensive data center infrastructure upgrades."
