Servers Based on Xeon Processor

SAN JOSE, CALIF., June 17, 2002
Server and storage solutions leader Rackable Systems today announced
that the Intel Xeon processor will power its new 1800 model as well
as other high-performance servers. Serving companies with demanding
IT environments such as Yahoo!, Google, Hotmail and Sony, Rackable
Systems also announced its deployment of over half of Intels 12 new
Server Building Blocks products.
The Intel Xeon processor will power Rackable Systems back-to-back 1U
1800 model server-an expansion of Rackables 1000 series server line.
Rackables 44U cabinets hold an unprecedented 88 1U servers and up to
176 Intel Xeon processors. Intel won us over with superior price performance
and reliability, said Giovanni Coglitore, Rackable Systems Co-founder
and CEO. The new Intel Xeon-powered motherboards, specifically designed
for servers, are ideal for Rackable Systems Linux clustering and other
high-performance computing customers.
Known for its expertise in large-scale deployments of Intel-based solutions,
Rackable Systems will be using eight new Intel products, including
the Intel Server Board SE7500CW2, the Intel Server Board SE7500WV2,
and the Intel Server Platform SRSH4. Intels objective is to provide
companies such as Rackable Systems with a host of server building block
products that allows them to focus on their added value in terms of
innovative design and excellent customer service, said Philip Brace,
marketing director of Intels Enterprise Platform & Services Division.
